Looking through an alternative to a free online store, I came across Shift4shop. For the past 4-6 months, I’ve being using Shift4shop. I ended up owning two stores, but I had to close one store realizing I really didn’t need that extra store.
If you are looking to starting an e-commerce store but lack money this might be another way to build your shop.
What is Shift4shop?
“….eCommerce website builders allow small online business to build their websites with ready-to-use templates. Most come at a cost, but Ship4Shop offers a free plan for merchants in participating countries like the US.” (shift4shop.com)
It’s a free platform you can use to build an online store for free.
- Has all the basics of an e-commerce store
- A bit of a learning curve, but easy to use once you learn you around
- Great page to start with if you are looking for a way to build your own store
- Accepts PayPal and few other payment methods
- Updated often
- Customer service
The best thing is that is free forever. No trial, no subscription. Has all the basics of a starting online store. Comes with a basic guide that helps you through the page. And accepts PayPal and has its own payment format that will need you to make a Strip account, unless if you already have one.
You Might Be Interest On:
- Limited customization
- Limited Pay methods
- Software difficulties
With any platform, there are some downs into it. For starters, themes are limited, but you can still change colors. Still store build is basic.
I love to integrate other paying methods such as Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Amazon Pay, etc. Unfortunately, Shift4shop allows debit/credit cards, PayPal, money order, and others. Which you would have to install, and in all honesty, not everyone likes this type of payments.
Then comes the problem with the page. Sometimes the page might stop responding and makes it real frustrating when trying to add items or change your site. Fortunately, the company is always updating the page for better experience, but still be aware.
Lastly, traffic is essential to every business. You need to bring people to your site to get sales. That goes for any business, and your job is to bring in that traffic to your shop.
Why choose Amazon over the free store? Well, When you hear Amazon vs Shift4shop, which one brings you more trust and you could be willing to buy from? For most, that might be Amazon, E bay, or Etsy.
The advantage you have from these sites is that you know how this platforms work. There are no surprises because there are many people buying and selling on this platform. Meaning traffic should be easer to get.
You can even run these stores on autopilot mode. Meaning you just add the items. People will come and see your items and if they like it, then they’ll buy. If you want faster results, promote your items/store on social media.
You pay a small fee; follow the page rules and you should begin to sell soon.
How much does Etsy charge per transaction?
Once an item sells, there is a 5% transaction fee on the sale price (including the shipping price you set). If you accept payments through Etsy Payments, we also collect a 3% + $0.25 payment processing fee when an item is sold.
Overall, ecommerce is not a one size fit for all. Look and research platforms that might best fit you. Remember to keep in mind your customer and business when building your store. You can always change your platform to something better once you have an income and a better understanding of your ideal audience.
